Amsterdam -71 (Days until OSiM World, not some sort of weird flight number by the way)
13/07/2009
So this is my first blog post in a while (read 2nd ever, I know I know) and my first since the latest Open Source in Mobile (OSiM) line-up has been announced. I hope you like it and I hope you agree that it really is a cracker this year. I’ve tried to really cover the ecosystem this time and get speakers that represent each walk of life in the OSiM universe, but as always if you disagree with anything, get in touch.
Each week I’ll be highlighting a section of the OSiM programme to discuss, be it an interview with one of our keynotes, an open call for questions for one of our panels, some insider secrets on the awesome parties we’ve got lined up or a list of great restaurants and bars to hit in Amsterdam in September (actually I’ll need your help on this one as I’m thinking about taking some holiday afterwards :-).
In fact your advice is where I want to start today. Now, I wrote the OSiM programme in the weeks immediately following hell on earth, otherwise known as Mobile World Congress. This was a time dominated by new device launches and new announcements from the big three (Android, Symbian, LiMo) as well as dozens of promises from OEMs and Operators alike. Barcelona also gave us a glimpse into what would be coming over the rest of the year. Now, over three months on, I want to know if you think they’ve delivered and are you optimistic, even a little bit excited about the future or is it all feeling a little bit like the first five minutes of a new Woody Allen film, a little anticlimactic and repetitive?
One of the things I’m keen to do this year in contrast to last year is give more content decision making over to you. In our hippie chillout zone at OSiM World in Amsterdam I’ll be leaving out some whiteboards for you to write over the two days anything that you wanted covered but didn’t get covered. Then at the end of day 2 we’ll all gather round and debate the topics that have been noted, that way I know that we really are creating an event that gives you what you want. But, I want to start the process early. So have a look at the programme and let me know if something’s changed in three months, if there’s something you want brought up that doesn’t appear. No matter how controversial or off the wall let me know. Remember you are the reason we are the leading industry event on open source, and I want to keep it that way. Get in touch.
